Across Europe - Amsterdam to Budapest (Amsterdam - Budapest) (19 destinations)

Today’s complimentary morning tour was your basic European city overview; historic places, medieval churches, political hotspots of yore. In the scope of four hours, we would either drive by, stop to view or exit the motor coach to stretch and take photos. Continue to Wertheim and explore the medieval streets with their half-timbered houses and the unique glass museum. This evening, enjoy another memorable meal as the ship plies the waters toward our next stop. In the morning, enjoy a boat trip along the famous Amsterdam canals followed by a trip to the peaceful countryside of the Waterland region.

Cruises

On board this evening, enjoy a Hungarian folklore show as your vessel cruises the Danube to see this beautiful gem by night. While it may take days or weeks to fully discover Vienna, this tour will give you an overall impression of the most important sights Vienna has to offer. First, you will drive along the famous Ringstrasse, passing several magnificent buildings like the stunning opera house, the parliament, the Court Theatre and Vienna’s imposing city hall. The former imperial city of Nuremberg awaits you today with its turbulent history and sights. After breakfast, explore the city on the morning tour and admiring the romantic old town. Enjoy an European river cruise on the Rhine and Danube rivers that starts in Amsterdam and ends in Budapest.

A walking tour leads you to the major sites and highlights of the city, from its medieval beginnings to the present. Once a free imperial city of economic influence, Nuremberg is the second largest city in Bavaria. During the reconstruction work following the devastation of the Second World War, the style of the old town was maintained.

In the morning, experience the many beautiful sights of the town as well as the Residence, a Baroque palace. The tour concludes with wine tasting in the ancient wine cellar of a local vineyard. The morning starts on a high note with the passage of the Lorelei in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. At lunchtime, the vessel arrives in Rüdesheim, a picturesque wine-making town in the Rhine Gorge. Discover the region’s rich history on a walking tour and admire the magical collection of instruments at the Music Cabinet Museum.

CRUISE ONLY OFFERS

Leave time to step outside for a sweeping view of the city and Danube below. Tonight was the official “Welcome Aboard” toast by Captain Marcin and Hotel Manager Eve. One sparkling wine down and just before dinner, we had our next day’s briefing. Next port going north on the Danube would be Bratislava, Slovakia. Fishermen’s Bastion, built between 1895 and 1902, the beautiful towers and covered terrace weren’t built to defend the territory but to provide unparalleled views of the city. We had ample time to wander along the terrace and up to the Neo-Romanesque designed towers.

Spend the morning discovering this typical Lower Austrian town or travel across the river to Melk and its famous magnificent Benedictine abbey — the largest in Austria. At the end of your tour, you will reach one of Regensburg's typical small breweries. Enjoy a guided tour of the brewery and a tasting of the local beer, before returning to the ship. An Amsterdam to Budapest river cruise is one of the most popular European itineraries out there, particularly for first timers.

Afterwards a guided walking tour leads you through the old town. See the main square with the old City Hall, the Opera House and Maximilian Fountain. From the Main Square we continue to a cosy cozy out of the way place to enjoy the famous Pressburger rolls with nut and poppy seed filling. We will end our walk at the historical Opera House in front of glorious Ganymede’s Fountain. Afterwards, you are free to explore or walk the short distance back to the ship. A comfortable coach will take you into the center of Bamberg, which is affectionately known as the “Frankish Rome”.

At the end of the tour you will have the chance to taste a glass of wine. The cathedral city dates back over 2,000 years and is full of history, the traces of which can be seen everywhere in the Rhine region. During the walking tour, explore the area around the cathedral all the way to the old town. As you travel through the narrow, cobbled streets, and the lively squares such as the Alter Markt or the Heumarkt, you will get a feel for life in Cologne from yesterday and today. Since its completion in 1880, the Cologne Cathedral with its two 515ft high towers has been the city's landmark, as well as the most famous architectural monument and most frequently visited sight in Germany.

A guided tour through the town will show you that Miltenberg offers a charming trio of river, medieval town and wooded hillsides. The historic market square, the high, gabled, half-timbered houses, the old town hall and the towering Miltenberg Castle form the backdrop for this wonderful tour. Even the light drizzle didn’t stop anyone from walking in the city center. After my friend’s doctor appointment, the three of us met for lunch and a walk through town.

Jur (St. George), Pezinok or Modra supplied the royal court with good Little Carpathian wines since the Middle Ages. Along the Little Carpathians are also artisan towns with long traditions such as pottery and other handicrafts. On your return drive, enjoy a wine tasting of the local vintage in a wine cellar, where you will also learn about the history of wine growing in the Little Carpathians. Explore the beautiful historic Thurn & Taxis Palace in Regensburg. The Palace, which has roots in German nobility, was built in the 18th century. During the guided tour, view the beautiful marble staircase in the south wing of the palace, which leads to the magnificent rooms of the princely residence.
